The tasty doom scroll

Imagine this: You’re laying on your bed after a hard day at work. You grab the party-size bag of Lay’s BBQ chips from the cabinet. In the span of a two and a half hours, you’ve proceeded to consume the entire bag of chips with minimal water.

How do you feel?

One or two (or three) handfuls of chips is OK. But after that party size bag, you feel nasty. The artificially-flavored dust-coated fried potato chips leave a feeling deep inside. A feeling of mediocrity at best.

99% of the time an entire bag of chips is eaten in one sitting, its followed by regrets. “Why the hell did I just eat that?” (The other 1% is after you take an edible, so that time doesn’t count).

Every time I open Instagram, I’m opening a mental bag of potato chips.

I sit on my phone, consuming reel after reel, until I can’t scroll anymore. When I finally look away from my phone, the sun has set and I’ve been sitting in the dark for an undisclosed amount of time.

That’s when it hits me.

I ate the whole bag of chips.

I haven’t done anything for at least two and a half hours. My eyes are strained, I’m pissed of at the news, I feel bad about my body, I’m now following a raccoon with a spinal deformity, I have twelve new crafts to invest in. The list goes on.

Is this healthy?

No.

Does it feel good in the moment?

Yes.

Will I do it again tomorrow?

Also yes.
